The Origin
THE ORIGIN
In 2023, Rory Weisscher spent seven months living in Rio de Janeiro. He went to learn the city from the inside, which in Rio means one thing: showing up every day. Futevôlei and altinha on Ipanema and Copacabana. Football on the sand at Praia do Flamengo. Running the beach in the morning, out with locals at night.
What got him was the culture. In Rio nobody waits for the weekend to feel alive. Music is everywhere, samba, baile funk, phonk, a speaker carried down to the sand. People dance because the day is reason enough. And in the evening the maté comes out, passed from hand to hand, after the game, at the market, on the beach. In Brazil maté is not really a drink. It is how people stay together. Energy without the crash, calm without slowing down.
Rory fell for all of it, and he wanted to bring it home to the people he cares about most.
Back in Europe he saw the gap. Every alcoholic drink was either synthetic energy in a can or just something to get drunk on. Nothing carried what maté carries in Brazil. So he called Douwe, a friend since their teenage years, and after one long conversation they were building it together. From there it moved fast.
SAMBA is made from everything Rory loves, with Brazilian culture as the base. Futevôlei and altinha, live music and the beach, the sport and the people and the long nights. The drink is only where it starts. Where it goes is everywhere those things live.
